Something doesnt sound right... I understand that the OP's vehicle is a 2004, but the same mount would have been used through the 2009 MY as he stated, as the GMT 360's have only been out of production since December 2008... That's A LOT of vehicles on the road that are going to have to rely on...

Try putting the parking brake on (just a few clicks - so that it would turn on the parking brake light on the IP) before you turn the ignition on. That trick works on most of the older GM auto light systems to disable the DRL's and headlamps (temporarily).
