Has anybody retrofitted these gas struts under the hood?

I've had a widely intermittent parasitic drain that only happens every few months so it's been really difficult to track down. I just bought a jump start battery pack and going to teach the wife how to use it if she ever gets stuck. The hardest part for her will be opening the hood, she's 77 years old and weighs all of 90 pounds so that's a pretty big muscle endeavor for her. I wish they still did like the old days with spring loaded hinges on cars.

Any other recommendations for something similar?

I don't know about those kits but I did retrofit the gas strut and mounts from my old 9-7x. Only difference is the 9-7x system uses only one strong strut which may be contributing to my hood bowing on that side. Two struts should be better with two less strong struts.

Looks pretty foolproof to me so I'll be ordering today.

What about closing them? If they are strong to go up, can she pull them down.

It's a good point but I feel optimistic it won't be a problem. She is able to close the rear hatch, not without some effort but it's easier for her to put whatever weight she has into pulling it down. Lifting is a much more difficult effort. I think. I'll know when I get there. She's pretty amazing for her age. We also have roadside service to fall back on but I'd like to provide a simpler and faster solution for her.

I know it's not a very good solution to my problem but this issue has been so difficult to troubleshoot I'm grasping. It literally happens once every few months--once the battery is recharged it will be fine and the problem disappears with no hope of hunting down a drain. I have no other clues to go on after that.
