Clicking/tapping sound during acceleration

Hows it goin guys. A few days ago I started noticing a clicking or tapping sound that seems to be coming from the passenger side of the engine bay. You can only hear it when accelerating at slightly above normal pace, above 2000 RPMs, and the harder i step on the gas the louder the noise is. It also stays at the same rate as the RPMs. In first gear i really have to step on the gas hard to hear anything at all. So mainly the noise is in 2nd gear or higher and only during decently hard acceleration. This sound familiar to anyone? Any help with this is very appreciated. Its just annoying and i don't want it to lead to something bigger. Thanks a lot guys.

Cracked exhaust manifold? Some exhaut leaks sound like ticking.

From what I've read a cracked manifold should get quieter as the engine warms up. My sound stays the same whether the engine is warm or cold. Also I've read a cracked manifold would resemble the sound of exhaust. This to me sounds in no way like a leak in the exhaust. Also if it was a crack wouldn't it make the noise when in neutral or park?

Does it only do it when your driving or can you make it do it while in Park while increasing the RPMs? If its possible I would try taping it somehow for everyone to listen to.

My Envoy (when I still had it), would produce a ticking noise that got louder with engine RPM's but after a few days and help from here it turned out the spark plug in cylinder #6 (last one towards the firewall) had worked its way loose over the years and was arching inside the cylinder and it almost sounded like an exhaust leak, replaced all the plugs with Iridiums (#6 being fouled up from the excess carbon) and the noise was gone.

Thanks for the info. No I can't get it to do it while I'm park or nuetral. Also I just remembered I got my right hub assembly replaced like a day or two before I noticed the noise. I don't know if that could be related but I just thought I would add that.

I doubt it since you say it is RPM related, not road speed.

What kind of mileage does the truck have and where it's at for maintenance? Oil, tranny fluid change, level and condition, plugs?

Truck has 130K on it. I just changed the oil about 3 weeks ago. The tranny fluid probably needs changed. I bought the truck with 95K on it and I'm not sure if the previous owner ever changed the tranny fluid and I havnt. It's always ran perfectly though besides some bad wheel bearings

I'm hoping it's not something with the transmission because of the acceleration and RPM you describe and it doesn't do it in park. Maybe do a pan drop and filter change so you can check for metal chunks in the pan.

Just my two cents here.

I had a very similar type sound and it turned out to be the idler pulley. Second time I've have to change it. Worth a check.

Good point. Another thing to check is the water pump and A/C compressor pulley bearing.

Still a good idea to to maintenance though, including the differentials and transfer case, which should be done every 50k miles.
