GMT 360 Quad Tail lights Modification.

You would still need to change the socket for the old turn signal to get park/brake function. And also the reverse socket. Imo it is best to just change them all to 1157 sockets to avoid the ck issues.

I could do them for you.
Is there a reason to use 1157 rather than 3157 sockets? The current brake / park light is 3157 so wouldn't I want to match that?

Derp, reading back through the thread answered my question. I would still prefer to use 3157 sockets because my top CK socket has a Philips LED in it that doesn't care about CK versus standard.

You are more than welcomed to do that. I changed all of mine because of the ck verses non ck sockets. 1157 are all the same and a better selection of lights imo.
Yea, thanks for answering that just there as well as months ago (lol). My apologies for the incessant questions.

It's ok man. I'm here to help.
Are you aware of an electrical schematic anywhere for the OEM board?

My plan is to obtain separate boards for the project so my vehicle doesn't see any down time throughout this process. It's my DD.

If you look close at my original post you can see some of the wires and what they are. Here are a couple of diagrams, also Mooseman has all the service manuals in his signature as a downloadable link.

Edit: ^^^ This is why I chose to change my sockets to 1157, you will see when you start trying to order led bulb assemblies. ^^^

What I'm trying to get out of it is how / where to tap the signal wire into reverse to enable use of the switchbacks.

Ok so I've ordered a separate set of boards for this project but just to confirm, there's no way to do this without changing out the center socket as well as reverse socket? No pin or wiring reconfigurations? I *definitely* need to order 4 sockets, is that correct?

Bro you gotta remove the reverse light socket and ad a 3 pin socket. your gonna hook the reverse light signal to one side, and the turn signal to the other. then you gotta take out the old turn signal socket and ad a 3 pin socket there. and you will duplicate the existing brake/tail socket to it. simple right?

Here are the changes below \/

I'm better with wrenches than wiring and circuitry; I apologize man. Thanks for the help tho.

Should the orientation of the new sockets matter any? For spacial reason and the way the replacement sockets are molded, they'll only fit in the boards if turned 90° one direction or the other.

As a note; I opted to remain with 3157 sockets.

It would only matter if you had some fancy LED bulb who's presentation was dependent on orientation. Like an alphanumeric character or something. Since most bulbs are symmetrical (the star LED bulb that I use is the only exception that comes to mind), the orientation of the socket won't matter, since you won't be able to tell once the bulb is installed.

Gotta continue this on and sway this in another direction .. I trying to do this mod but I'm trying to put the resistors in and I'm either getting hyper flash or melting the socket. Which wires do I use I can't figure it out ... Thanks ImageUploadedByTapatalk1442871681.159817.jpg

Turn signal and ground. That's it. Make sure you're NOT putting it on the brake or parking light wires.

Well, what resistors do you have? How are you attaching them to the wires? Only way you get hyperflash is if there isn't enough resistance seen on the circuit by the flasher module.

Make sure your wires are soldered to the resistor. some of the ones I ordered had the wired twisted around the end with heat shrink on it. the wires were not making contact.....you need to verify what the wires are with a DMM I do not remember for sure but I think the black wire is the reverse lights. Check for resistance to the body.

On driver side, ground is black and when facing the wire harness, the blinker is second wire from left. Light blue.

Passenger side, black ground and DARK blue wire.

I like it. A lot.

Was it just the angle or does your passenger taillight not have brake mode? I didn't see a change in intensity.

After seeing the video, I got curious and checked...

Seems as though everything works fine. :-)

Man that came out great. I'm thinking about doing that configuration on the ext :)
I couldn't have done it without the patience you had with my million questions.
Originally I was gonna have you work on the boards but I decided that the payoff would be greater if I were to do it myself. I learned some valuable stuff while working on this.

Yeah, it looks that way to me too after watching both videos again. Like both park and brake are only hitting the low signal on the passenger side, and no high.

That's what I get for working on this while inebriated...

You guys were right about that side not having brake functionality. I missed a solder connection to the top socket.

It's all fixed now...

Now all you need is some 194 switchbacks for your mirrors. They're pretty rare though.
I've been digging through the interwebz for ages looking for 194 switchbacks. I can't find em anywhere. Plus I have amber lenses on the mirrors and I'll be damned if I'm gonna pay 60 a side for the clear ones. I gotta draw the line somewhere haha.

I bought a fancy butane solder iron and taught myself to solder for this endeavor so I'm content *for now*

Again looks great, glad you took the initiative to do something you like. A lot of people get intimidated and never try. Congratulations :tiphat:
Thanks man. Again, thank you for holding my hand through it all.

I've already got the itch for something more now lol, I just don't know what to do next...

Ideas?.... Haha

:iagree: There's nothing wrong with trying something new and challenging. I do it all the time (I just keep most of the failures to myself :raspberry:)

Oh you want us to help you spend your money? We're good at that.

I like lighting. A lot. As a kid (and to this day) I've always been fascinated with emergency lighting. I watch videos on YouTube of the latest and greatest technology in emergency lighting.

I'm an ENORMOUS nerd about it. At least I admit it lol. I wanna do puddle lights, floor lights, lighted running boards (I don't even have running boards yet) I just wanna indulge.
