Original shock. Or is this a strut?
I don't know much of shocks as I've only replaced on solid axles.
Pictured oil leak is only on Right. Maybe not such a bad leak.
2006 Envoy 5.3 4WD
Which shock is the most direct R&R, and without needing alignment?

Some threads speak of a 4600, I assume this is Bilstein 24-103336 B6 4600.
Saw a mention of a 5100, assume this is Bilstein 24-267014 B8 5100.
ACDelco Part # 560-1044

'You must also purchase 15834275 (lower portion) and 15042048 (top portion) of upper mount.'

Somebody said avoid Monroe

Another thread said a press and cutting torch is required. I have neither. I do have an angle grinder.

The Bilsteins are the favourite here but they don't come as complete struts so you have to reuse the spring from the old one. The springs are are stout, even more than my Sierra, so you would need really good spring compressors.

From the FAQ:

While waiting on front Bilstein 4600 to arrive.
Picked-up 2 new Bilstein rear shocks 24-103350 locally, already installed. Google AI said 210ftlbs torque, I used 63ftlbs.

Google AI can be wrong a lot of times. ChatGPT is much better. Trust but verify!

Interesting, google AI told me I should apply 63ftlbs torque. From wrench feeling the 63 ftlbs should be a right call.

Front shocks arrive tomorrow. My 1st struts.

Can I break loose the top center while still mounted, for leverage? Just 1/4 turn. I have applied Liquid Wrench.

What are torque specks for that top nut, 2 top sides, and the 2 lower nuts?

Top mounting bolts (2): 33ft\lbs
Pinch Bolt at shock bottom: 52ft\lbs
Shock yoke to lower control arm: 81ft\lbs

From what I can find and this video, it's 33 ft/lbs, same as the mounting bolts. However, because it's a stud that needs to be held with a wrench in the middle, it's practically impossible to get a measurement so just use the old German measurement "Goodentite".

I don't see a problem with just cracking that center nut loose before removing.

Well, strut RnR was the most involved car project in a long time. About 3 hours of working time.
But lots of setup time in gathering tools and loaners tre puller, spring compressor.
Oh, and didn't need those stupid isolators "must also purchase 15834275 (lower portion) and 15042048 (top portion) of upper mount.'"
Fortunately, nothing was stuck or frozen. One mistake when jack slipped, but the 2.5 ton stands made it a minor inconvenience.
