Stock shocks any difference?

Hey guys I have 04 LS and I have had the DJM Kit for awhile now and i love it. But the back sits a little to high and i want it a tad lower. My question is does the shock help with that at all? I still have the stock shock on there with no complaints but i was wondering what is the difference with the lower performance shocks verus stock? And which brand should i switch to when its time to replace??

Shocks have zero effect on ride height unless they are coilovers (with external springs you can see) or air shocks with a hose fitting so you can add air to a built-in bladder. OEM and most aftermarket shocks aren't like that. Unless your springs lower you so much that the longer OEM shocks bottom out, which can damage them, or your red rubber bump stops are hitting. If youptu in lowering springs, the instructions should have said to cut down the bump stops.

Lowering the rear (except for air suspension like the SS and some Envoys) involves installing shorter springs, which is what determines the ride height.

right thats what i thought. but what aftermarket shocks should i buy when my stocks go out since they are def not going to last with a 4 inch drop for very long. is cutting the spring a lil to just get that right height any good does it ruin the ride of the spring?

Don't cut the spring. You could but...just don't.


Don't get Monroe sensatracs. No difference than worn shocks after they broke in. Lookup Norcal SS, he sells belltech drop struts shocks and has great reviews. They are priced accordingly IMHO. I would suggest these as I'm sure I've read every shock thread here and on OS at least twice.

Same thing goes for torching the spring until it's red hot and sags. Read about it. Don't do it.

yea i guess ill just live with the ride height for now. I wish someone made a true 5 inch spring id get it in a heart beat. it just doesnt sit level or close to level with the front still has that raised back end look just hate it. Thanks guys.
