Hey guys ok so my buddy has a 02 TB LS, and he's having terrible luck tonight. First off this morning he ran off the road and tore the front bumper and grille off and he just came by a few hours ago and I rebuilt it the best I can(I'll be posting some pictures up later), and now he just called me and he was parked at a friends house on a hill and he went to leave but the transmission shifter knob is moving through the gears but the truck isn't going anywhere like it's still in park and it still shows on the dash that it's in park. Any ideas what this could be or how to fix it?? Thanks for anyone's help

Had the same thing happen to me just randomly. Went to harbor freight to grab some tools, drove perfectly fine there. I park it away from anyone and anything, maybe in there for all of 20 mins. Come back out and go to put it in reverse, shifter slides free. Luckily I had a friend who worked at the auto shop I first worked at and told him what happened and he told me how to fix it so I could get it to the shop. Unfortunately apparently I ended up needing a whole new cable, cause they said the bushing connection was too worn out that the repair kit wasn't working ( highly unlikely). Never understood why GM didn't make it out of metal or that there was an aftermarket metal replacement.

I'm going over there today to help him fix it, so do we need to get a new bushing or do you think we might be able to hook up the old one?

I have an '03 and mine broke w/o warning years ago. It was the plastic portion that wraps around the eye. I ended up fashioning my own repair as I was not sure if I wanted to go through ordering one from the dealer and taking the console apart. Besides it makes your vehicle unusable while you are waitihgn

My repair was made from two pieces of thick metal (I think I used a coat hanger) that I made into an sideways U with the ends folded down at 90 degrees to bite into the old plastic. I have not had any problems with my repair. I check it from time to time when under my truck to make sure it it not coming off and so far so good for a daily driver hack or to get you to the point where it can be replaced.
