XL p/s pump with SWB rack

I recently installed a new steering rack on my 03XL. (Lares 23525). I understand that this is the part for number for SWB trucks but parts are becoming limited. Other than a slight power steering whine in the 3k+ rpm’s range, I have no concerns or problems with this rack or steering at this time. However I am still running the P/S pump and pulley
for the XL. Will there be any problems running this set up in the future?

You'll be fine. I had swapped my SWB rack with one from a LWB and also changed the pump to match. When that rack failed, I went back to a SWB rack but left the LWB pump. No problems here. If anything, it might be a bit easier at low speed.

Thanks for the reply. My biggest concern was unforeseen damage. Did you notice any p/s whines when you ran that set up. I got one that comes in around 2500rpm. Not the loudest thing in the world but it’s there. Heck could be the pump going out or some combo of my cold climate fluid with the lwb smaller pulley. I’ve pretty much accepted the noise as part of my trucks identity but I’ll always be curious.

Could be the thin fluid or the pump is on its way out. Try to flush the system.

AFAIK, I don't think I have cold climate fluid and it gets really cold here! No problem in winter. I'd be afraid of issues with a thin fluid in summer.

Yea I get that cold startup whine in the winter time. The colder it is the worse it is. But the longest I heard it whine for was 20seconds. She screams tho when it happens.

Mine might whine for a second in -20-30c but then quiet. In summer, nothing. I think your pump is dying.

I’ll probably end up getting one sooner or later. May try the swb one to see what happens. At least the pump is a fairly straight foward job. Thanks for your input!
